Does Boca Ciega need a mooring field? While talking to one of the guys at the Gulfport Marina a few weeks ago, he commented that they need a mooring field in the bay, but that it didn’t look like it would happen. Today, in a post on Sailmonster, someone commented about a possible mooring field in the bay and posted a link to the petition. I don’t know enough about it as far as living aboard, dumping problems, enviromental impact etc. Will it be good or bad for the area? Will try to investigate, meanwhile here’s the petition link: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/support-municipal-mooring-field-in-gulfport-florida.html

After reading a few articles from the St. Pete Times, it appears to boil down to: good for the city, bad for the environment. I’m usually on the side of nature, but compared to all the homes with their yard runoff, and pollution from other sources, a little mooring field isn’t going to destroy the bay or the planet.
