Identify Tall Ships By Rig

by PyratCapn on July 10, 2009

Masts, sails, lines, oh my.

There’s a huge “Sail Boston 2009″ event going on right now – July 8th – 13th. Having my finger on the pulse of sailing around the globe, I thought it was a good time to talk about it since it’s almost over. So, if you’re somewhere near Boston, go! Go now!

Above is an informative pic from the Sail Boston 2009 website. Interesting how similar the ships seem, but after a close look, the rigs are quite different. Since my brain cells are often short-lived, the best I’ll be ableĀ to rememberĀ is “that there is a wood masted shipentine.”

Just caught the “Tree-Masted Schooner”. We all make mistkaes.

Technically you could claim that these old wooden beauties are all really “tree” masted(aside from the Maltese falcon and a few others). Therefore you haven’t really made your first mistake of the year yet;). Nothing quite as humbling as sailing my teensy little boat up near one of the major tall ships.
