This weekend the crew is planning an invasion of beer can island in Tampa Bay. An early morning departure from Gulfport City Marina should allow for an early afternoon arrival at the island. Crew will be CannonBall, Jack-Knife and yours truly. Looking forward to the getaway. Grillin’, drinking and maybe a little treasure hunting. Have a great time. We’d have loved to trailered up and met you there with our new Hobie Island Trimarans but are at the Universal Resort through the wknd (trying to stimulate the economy among other unstimulated things). Stay cool dude and keep your head down in the thunder storms:). We’ll have a Hawaiian girl bring us an icy cooool poolside drink with one of those touristy little umbrellas in your honor. I know that island well. I have slept at anchor more times than I can count. It is a great place, with deep water close to the shore and good holding bottom.
Remember to give the shoal to the south plenty of room. It extends quite a ways to the south. You can see the shoaling in the sat photo you posted. Another word of warning… there are no facilities on this island. Many people camp overnight on the island and take some creative liberties with the latrine situation. Watch where you step in the woods.
