Spot On, Guvna’

by PyratCapn on March 3, 2009

Just finished a phone conversation with my cousin this evening about the lost-at-sea NFL players tragedy. In the middle of my ranting about the high-cost of EPIRB’s vs. how important they are to have onboard, he said “you know about that new SPOT locator right?” Uh – no. Since my hip is permanently attached to my computer desk I Googled “SPOT locator” while still talking. This thing looks like a great solution to a low cost, coastal sailing locator! One hundred and forty-nine bucks plus $99/year and you can send your location out in something like 20 minutes. I want one.

Cool little orange thingy.BoatUS has been selling them for awhile, I think – but only shiny bright 50% off items get my attention. I like the fact that the SPOT is direct-to-satellite and for another 50 bucks a year you can get the service that will allow your family to track your progress – land or sea. I’d rather have this little gadget over a cell phone any day.
