These last few weeks it’s been cold here in Gulfport, Florida. My feet and hands have adopted this biting, painful feeling that only lets up when I’m in the shower with the hot water cranked. This morning, standing on the cold tile floor in the kitchen, waiting for the coffee, I suddenly recalled an image of turquoise blue water, white sand and beautiful skies. Abaco, my happy place.
I’m not sure what “Down Island” means, where it came from – I googled “what is down island” and only got a cookbook, and some vacation spots, but my attention span was too short to explore past the first page of results – so who knows. I guess down island just sounds tropical and faraway, so I’m putting up some down island images for everyone that’s wishing they could warm their feet in the Bahamian sand.
These pictures are from a spur-of-the-moment trip in 2005. A wealthy customer of mine had planned a birthday trip for his girlfriend and rented 3 houses in Hopetown, Abaco. The planned attendees couldn’t make it and during a little business lunch at a fried chicken joint he told me the house was mine if I could just fly there. He had the houses for a week, but The Admiral and I could only get away for 4 days. I would still say it’s the best getaway we’ve ever had.
