Mariola is under attack. The winter crows are back in Gulfport and bent on changing her color. These little poopers must have one of the highest fiber diets in the animal kingdom. What a mess. It’s time to protect the topsides with wax, a chore I’m not looking forward to. On the upside, there’s a great wax that most boaters love - Woody Wax. No rubbing, no buffing. The company says you can just spray it on, brush it around, and simply wash off the excess.
My technique is a little different. Take a small section of rag about 6″ square, spray the Woody Wax in an area and wipe to cover. Eventually the small rag becomes completely saturated and it gets easier and faster to wax. If you use a big rag, it soaks up all the wax and less gets on the boat. Since Woody’s runs about $30/bottle) and I’m frugal, I take a little extra time to get the most out of the bottle. Woody’s website says one 16 oz. bottle has enough to do a 25′ center console 4 times. I only got two coatings out of a bottle on my old 26′ Center Cockpit Parker-Dawson, so I’m guessing I’ll get use the whole bottle on Mariola. After applying, I’ll let it dry and then wipe down everything with a big beach towel.
Woody’s is designed for non-skid surfaces and almost seems like a Teflon coating. Poop, grime, etc. washes right off after using Woody’s Wax and you can’t beat the ease of application.
