Hittin’ The Road To Key West

It’s not sailing, but this is real and it’s going to be my focus for the next few months. This January 8-9th, 2010 my wife and I will be participating in the 6th Annual SMART Ride bike ride from Miami to Key West – can I rig a sail on my bike? 100% of funds raised goes directly to FLORIDA HIV/AIDS  organizations. In the past 5 years, The SMART Ride has raised and returned more than $1.75 Million, a full 100% of what the participants have raised.

Total miles – 165, 100 the first day to Hawk’s Cay and the final 65 on day two. If we can remount the bikes. I’m hoping the pain isn’t too bad. Right now, we’re figuring we’ll be on the bikes 10 hours the first day. This is going to be a salve-intensive weekend. A  note – Hawk’s Cay is bascially donating the overnight, midway point lodging for the 300+ riders. Pretty amazing.

Since the focus of the ride is to raise money, here’s how you, my reader, can donate some. Just a dollar or two – any amount will help.

  • Few extra bucks in your PayPal account? You can send to rumhead@pyratsail.com subject SMARTRide.
  • This is our chance to make a real difference in someone’s life. Let’s do it! Stay tuned for training pics – RumHead on a bike. I’m also working on a printed Bike Shirt to recognize my sponsors/donators.

Thanks so much Annie and thanks for the donation. We are training hard and I hope to be able to make it under my own power.
